Abstract

The purpose of this study is to develop the assessment tool of Hemiplegic¢¥s ADL level, and to identify the basic informations for the adequate provision of rehabilitation nursing.
The ADL assessment tool is composed of 51 items which include bed activity (6), feeding (5), personal hygiene (6), dressing (12), transfer, (11) and ambulation (8).
Twenty-four patients, who had been admitted in S Hospital and I Hospital with hemiplegic conditions, were observed and asked to rate their own ADL level.
Results of this study were as follows:
1. Total ADL mean score of 24 patients was 2.483, which suggested continuous follow-up care is needed after discharge.
2. Activity could be performed with help of another person for three quarters of patients, and could be performed independently, but were not being done for a quater of patients.
3. Performance of ADL on the average showed in the order of bed activity, feeding, personal hygiene, dressing, transfer and arnbulation, and especially transfer and ambulation seemed to be highly dependent.
4. There were no significant differences in the ADL scores according to sex, age, CT diagnosis, paralysis side, compliance, or emotional status, but there were significant differences in the ADL score according to bladder and bowel control.
